Welcome to the Lushootseed Wiktionary, currently in beta version!

The goal of this dictionary is to translate every word in every dialect of Lushootseed into English and the other languages of the world. See also Lushootseed Wiki for the online Lushootseed encyclopedia.

Signing up

This wiki can be edited by anyone, but as a measure to reduce vandalism, editors are required to first create an account and verify it by e-mail. After you have created an account, to display Lushootseed letters when editing a page, please go to "preferences" in the upper right corner, click the "gadgets" tab and check "<gadget-Edittools>."

Creating a new entry

To create a new entry, enter the word in the search box in the upper right corner of any page and press enter. An option will appear to create a new entry if it does not yet exist. Please note that all Lushootseed entries should start with a small letter ("sqigʷəc" not "Sqigʷəc"), and English entries should start with a capital letter only when that is the standard form ("Monday," "Washington," etc.)

  • Hint: There is a lot of formatting in entries. To help, we are working on a template that you can fill in. In the meantime, the easiest way to make an entry with formatting is to copy the contents of a different entry and just replace where necessary.
  • Provisional rule for the Lushootseed Wiktionary: For easier searching, entry words in Lushootseed should not have accent marks. They can be added as alternate spellings. See swədəbš for an example.
