Months in dxʷləšucid run from one new moon to the next. A synodic month (month based on lunar phases) is approximately 29.5 days. Twelve such months is 354 days, 11 days short of a solar year. By occasionally adding an extra thirteenth month, the lunar and solar cycles can be kept relatively in synch.
