Proto-Salish is a theoretical language form which all Salish languages are descended. Pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and other aspects of Proto-Salish are reconstructed by comparing existing languages today.
The evolution of Lushootseed is generally believed to be: Proto-Salish > Proto-Coast Salish > Proto-Central Salish > Lushootseed > Northern, Southern and other dialects.
Reconstructed forms are indicated with an asterisk. Example: *ʔiɫ(t)n (see ʔəɫəd)
